Zelle® Now Live! In West Gate Bank Mobile Banking App Today!

Review advice, updates, and news from West Gate Bank!

February 6, 2020

We are excited to announce that Person-to-Person (P2P) payment system Zelle® is now live in the West Gate Bank Mobile Banking app and through Online Banking. Embedded into the digital banking experience of West Gate Bank, Zelle enables convenient P2P payments for West Gate Bank mobile banking consumers.

A convenient way to pay people you trust - right from the West Gate Bank app - the Zelle Network® includes banks and credit unions of all sizes. For more than 95-million consumers, Zelle is already available from the convenience of their mobile banking app, making digital payments a fast, safe and easy alternative to cash and checks. Zelle allows for funds to be sent from one bank account in the U.S. to another, using only a recipient's email address or U.S. mobile number. Funds are typically available within minutes with both parties are already with Zelle.

What is Zelle?

Zelle is a fast, safe and easy way to send money directly from one bank account in the U.S. to another, typically within minutes1 when both parties are already enrolled. With just an email address or U.S. mobile phone number, you can quickly, safely, and easily send money to people you trust, regardless of where they bank2.

Today, Zelle is embedded into the digital banking experiences of participating financial institutions, and also available through a standalone Zelle app. More than 95-million mobile banking consumers can access Zelle directly through their bank's app, and almost anyone with a Visa® or Mastercard® debit card (with a U.S. bank account) can access it through the Zelle app.

Why Zelle?

Mobile banking and digital payments are on the rise, and consumers need FIs to provide a convenient alternative to cash and checks that doesn't compromise safety or user experience. With Zelle, financial institutions are able to provide their customers with a convenient method of sending and receiving money through existing mobile banking apps. The Zelle experience is fast, safe and easy, allowing consumers to send money directly from one bank account in the U.S. to another, typically within minutes1 when both parties are enrolled. For more than 95 million consumers, Zelle is already available from the convenience of their mobile banking app, with no additional downloads required.

How can consumers access Zelle?
Consumers can access and use Zelle in two ways:
1. Participating FI online banking or mobile app. To use Zelle through a participating FI, consumers can log into their FI’s online banking or mobile app and select “Send Money with Zelle®.” Consumers then follow a few simple steps to enroll, and can then send money directly from their bank account to another bank account in the U.S. using only the recipient’s email address or U.S. mobile phone number.
2. Zelle standalone app. Individuals can also experience Zelle through a standalone Zelle app available for both iOS and Android mobile devices. Through partnerships with Visa® and Mastercard®, most people with a U.S. based debit card (does not include U.S. territories) can use the Zelle app.

How does Zelle work?
When a consumer enrolls with Zelle through the West Gate Bank Mobile Banking app, the name of their bank and the email address or U.S. mobile number they use to enroll is shared with Zelle (no sensitive account details – those stay with the bank). When someone sends money to the consumer’s enrolled email address or U.S. mobile number, Zelle looks up the email address or mobile number in its “directory” and notifies the recipient’s bank of the incoming payment. The recipient’s bank then directs the payment into the consumer’s bank account, all while keeping sensitive account details private.

1 To receive money in minutes, the recipient's email address or U.S. mobile number must already be enrolled with Zelle.

2 Must have a bank account in the U.S. to use Zelle.
